Our Visit to White Grizzly Cat Skiing

Holy crap is this steep! Good thing the pow is so deep you choke on it!

Out of the trees and in DEEP!

The legend of Cat Skiing at the Grizz is not a legend. It is true. Before my visit, I heard that White Grizzly is the place for steep, deep and tight trees. Just in case that doesn’t resonate with potential clients, their motto is “Ski good. Or eat wood.” So you get the picture.

While this obviously is not the place for every one, expert pow skiers who love the trees will love WG. And you do not need to be a pro skier who can jump off cliffs and bounce off pillows, you just need to be good and confident in the trees. And of course you need to be able handle the DEEP POW…which is always on tap there in their location near Meadow Creek, BC.

Of course there is more to good Cat Skiing in BC than just the snow and terrain. You need a Cat Ski operation that has a nice comfy lodge, friendly staff and good food. And White Grizzly definitely delievers on all 3. While not a typical large ‘commercial’ lodge, the WG lodge is rustic/elegant and quite cozy. Built in to a wood side setting, the hand-crafted log chalet is nicely equipped with 5 bedrooms (with bathroom ensuites), a cozy living room with fireplace and large dining table. There is also a nice hot tub located on the back deck so you can soak your leg muscles after all the turns in the trees.

And one of the best things about “the Grizz” is that you pretty much have the place to yourself. The lodge only holds a max. of 12 guests at any one time, and they only operate 1 CAT per day. So that means there only a select few each day who get to enjoy all that creamy pow! Here are some more pics from my visit to WG…I am easy to spot in my bright green jacket.
